Volume 46 (1) Call for Submissions Dossier “Contemporary Shamanisms. Conceptions and experiences revisited” Submission deadline February 29, 2024
Scripta Ethnologica Nueva Época calls for the submission of articles for the Dossier “Shamanisms. Conceptions and experiences revisited”.
The aim of this dossier is to bring together articles from the social and human sciences that problematize and discuss conceptions and experiences on the contemporary forms of shamanism. Traditionally approached as a specifically indigenous phenomenon, its current dissemination to non-indigenous cultures is part of a broader context of exchange and dialogue between local and global movements, which enriches experiences in modern religious peripheries, motivating new research questions and the review of analytical frameworks in the context of the social, political and historical backgrounds of its development.
They will be accepted contributions depicting the results of specific ethnographic research or that contrast phenomena and categories of analysis, and theoretical and practical approaches. Topics can go through various aspects, such as myth; worldview; initiation processes; rituals; identity, leadership, and power; therapy and medicine; modernity and sacred peripheries; influences of Christianity; gender; body, corporality, and performance; neo shamanisms and New Age spiritualities; ethnic tourism; experiences of the sacred; culture, tradition, continuity, settings, and praxis.
Articles must be written in Spanish, English, or Portuguese and have a maximum length of 8,000 and a minimum of 6,000 words. The rules for authors can be consulted at:
